LET'S CONNECT

We are currently accepting new learners.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, we are working to ensure all health and safety regulations are maintained. Registration will be done by appointment only. To get started contact Alison by email at info@adultliteracyfredericton.org or by phone 506.458.1396.

Since 1978, Adult Literacy Fredericton has been teaching adult learners to read and write. Over 1,500 people have been trained as volunteer tutors and more than 2,000 leaners have received help. Our trained tutors work with people to improve their basic and functional skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, numeracy and other life skills.
Our programs are adapted to the goals of the student. Using methods developed by literacy pioneer, Dr. Frank Laubach, our trained volunteer tutors to work one-on-one with adult learners.

About Us

Adult Literacy Fredericton strives to empower adult learners 18 years of age and older by helping them acquire the reading, writing, and numeracy skills necessary to function successfully at home, at work, and in the community, to achieve their goals, and to develop their full potential.

Research indicates adults with higher literacy skills are:
  • Healthier and more active in their community
  • Less likely to live in levels of poverty
  • Able to access better employment opportunities
  • Pursuing further training and education
  • Reading to their children

We also seek to raise awareness of literacy issues by educating the community about the realities of low literacy, reducing the stigma attached to low literacy, making employers and co-workers more supportive of those with literacy challenges, and encouraging learners to apply to our program.

Our Programs

Taking the first step to change your life can be difficult, but starting your learning journey can be easier than you think.  It’s flexible, free, and confidential.  You will meet one-on-one with a tutor who is sensitive to your challenges and goals.  Your sessions will take place in our beautiful, private learning room at the Victoria Health Centre.

Our trained volunteer tutors use the “Each One Teach One” method to give learners the basic tools and the confidence they need to seek better job and educational opportunities, to take control of their finances and health, and to participate in the literacy development of their children.

We have different core resources to meet your needs, abilities, and learning style. These materials are free for as long as you are in our program.
