What? LLNB’s “Celebrating Learning” Provincial Conference
What`s it about?
The theme of our spring provincial conference, Celebrating Learning, was adopted in 2009, and is this biennial event’s recurring focus. The conference serves as a celebration of learning and training development for teachers, tutors, and learners engaged in adult literacy services. This year’s event is hosted by the Moncton Regional Learning Council Inc.
What`s happening?
Starting at 6:30p.m. on Friday evening, people can arrive and register. There will be an informal Meet and Greet set up from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. The Conference sign-in desk will re-open at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, (with coffee and treats nearby) to distribute conference packets to those pre-registered for the event. Saturday’s agenda includes a keynote speaker address by Dr. Terry Kelly at 11:00 a.m., a special message from Hon. Marilyn Trenholme Counsell at 1:00p.m., morning & afternoon training workshops, and a Saturday evening celebration banquet at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to get their tickets for the banquet, serving up a hot buffet and special entertainment. On Sunday, there will be a plenary session on developing ideas for student recruitment and retention strategies. The weekend conference will close after the 10:30 a.m. Brunch and special prize draws for plenary session participants!
What workshops are offered for tutors & teachers?
Some of the training workshops available to literacy practitioners include: Strategies for working with adult learners with learning disabilities and learning differences, Embracing math, Using assistive technology, Encouraging the reluctant writer, and an information session on the CALP and WES programs and how they network with Laubach programs.
What learning is available for students?
Students will engage in fun writing activities at the Writing Out Loud workshop on Saturday morning. Learning enrichment opportunities for learners are planned for Saturday afternoon through local area site visits (locations to be announced).
