Laubach Literacy of New Brunswick (LLNB) is a volunteer organization affiliated with Laubach Literacy of Canada (L.L.C.). We tutor New Brunswick's adult non-readers on a one-to-one basis using our Each One Teach One philosophy. Our volunteer tutors are trained to reach and teach those adults in need of basic literacy skills. In our society to be unskilled in reading and writing means:
Limited job opportunities
Increased Social Assistance
Higher rate of criminal behaviour
Incompetency in the marketplace
Sense of inadequacy in society
Inability to reinforce reading and writing in one's own children
Inability to vote
More than 60% of New Brunswickers aged 16 and over do not have the minimum literacy skills needed to cope with the demands of everyday life and work.
The first Laubach community council started in Saint John in 1975. We have active councils all over the province, all working with adult students. We are a registered non-profit charitable organization.
We use an established, proven program.
We answer an ongoing need.
The program is flexible and designed to meet the individual student's needs. Both the student and the tutor meet at convenient times and places. It is also private and confidential.
