DONATE BOOKS - Starting on September 3rd, books of all sorts can be donated to Bookstravaganza simply by visiting a Sobeys location in Moncton, Dieppe or Riverview and placing them gently into the donation bin. Our volunteers pick up the books regularly and take them to our sorting facility where volunteers behind the scenes work diligently to sort and categorize all the donations we receive.
FACEBOOK CONTESTS - We had great success with our Facebook contests and quizzes last year so please follow LaubachLiteracyNB on Facebook and maybe you will win a place at the front of the line on our Opening Day (Oct. 18th)
From October 18 - 20, LLNB will hold its 6th Annual Bookstravaganza. The Really Good, Really Big, Really Fun Book Sale takes place at the gymnasium of Edith Cavell School in Moncton and raises funds for LLNB’s programs and increases public awareness about literacy issues in New Brunswick. Each year, the public donates thousands of books for the sale through LLNB’s community partner – Sobeys. This even also recycles many precious books, and the low prices allows books to be put into the hands of those who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
More than 2500 people attended the book fair in 2018, and it raised over $25,000 for literacy programs including:
New learner assessment tool – now available at LLNB councils throughout the province it allows more accurate assessment of a learner’s current skillset and allows us to better track a learner’s progress in a number of core competencies. This helps to give learners a greater sense of accomplishment as they see improvement in a variety of a learning areas.
New text books – LLNB provides resources, workbooks and reading materials, to its councils throughout the province. Resources do not just include traditional text books. There are a number of proven new computer applications and games that adult learners can use to improve their skills, as well as interactive digital versions of the favoured print resource.
Improved Tutor Training – LLNB has restructured its tutor training program to allow for greater flexibility in how/when tutors are able to complete their training. The new program combines online learning with in-person training. Additionally, a more comprehensive continuing education program is now available to all tutors.
You can help LLNB continue this necessary and effective work by becoming a sponsor of Bookstravaganza. Your support will be used to directly support our programs and services – improving adult literacy across New Brunswick.
